School
29 Partnership:
More than 100 members of the Rochester legal community (lawyers,
paralegals, administrative assistants and others) devote at
least one hour per week to mentoring students who attend School
29, a K-5 elementary school located on Rochester's west side.
Mentors work with individual students or an entire class.
They provide reading and math assistance, play educational
games, and, most importantly, serve as positive role models.
Lawyers for Learning also hosts an annual dinner for School
29 families, funds field trips, sponsors reading contests,
distributes free books and provides enrichment grants to worthy
students. The Partnership is always looking for more mentors,
since there is usually a list of students who are waiting
for their own "lawyer." Schedules are flexible and the school
is conveniently located about ten minutes from downtown. Most
mentors describe their time at School 29 as the best, most-satisfying
hour of their entire week! |
