Beginner-level overview of handling an abuse or neglect case in Family Court, from the time of the initial removal through fact finding or settlement of the case, and beyond. Attorneys will learn practical courtroom skills and effective tools for protecting parents’ rights, negotiating on behalf of the client, and being proactive outside the courtroom in working toward the ultimate goal of reunification of parent and child. Sarah S. Holt, Esq. is the Supervising Attorney of the Family Court section at the Monroe County Conflict Defender’s Office, where she is in her tenth year of practicing parent defense. She was previously employed by the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, and as a criminal defense attorney in private practice in Albany, NY.
