As part of Women's History Month, the Monroe County Bar Association Center for Education presents a special CLE on two western New York female attorneys who were pioneers in the legal field. Be inspired by the legacies of Belva Ann Lockwood and Charlotte Smallwood-Cook and learn from their experiences in raising the glass ceiling and overcoming adversities against women in the legal profession. Denise Munson will talk about Lockwood (1830-1917), who grew up in Niagara County and was the very first woman in the country to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, while Jane Schmeider will give a first-hand account of Smallwood-Cook (1923-2013) who, in 1950, became the first woman elected district attorney in New York state.
