Bridging the Black/Jewish Divide: A Dialogue
In Person Only
Thu, February 16, 2023
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM ET
Speakers: Jacques Berlinerblau, Georgetown University; Terrence Johnson, Harvard Divinity School; moderated by Langston McFadden, Esq., P&F (and MCBA President); and Jill Paperno, Esq., Empire Justice Center
At a time when white supremacy is on the rise, hate speech has become normalized, and hate crimes against Blacks and Jews have reached an all-time high, we will examine the complex history of Blacks and Jews in the United States and explore current day issues that serve as roadblocks to deep, trusting relationships. Professors Jacques Berlinerblau of Georgetown University and Terrence Johnson of Harvard Divinity School, authors of Blacks and Jews in America: An Invitation to Dialogue, will be joined by MCBA President Langston McFadden and former President Jill Paperno as they unpack the myths, misconceptions, and shared history of these two minority groups nationally and locally and model effective dialogue that creates a foundation for understanding and allyship.
This event is co-sponsored by the Levine Center to End Hate at the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester, the Konar Center for Tolerance and Jewish Studies at Nazareth College, and the Monroe County Bar Association.
